Carmen
Toured from Tokyo to Mexico City
About the production
Carmen
The narrative centres on an unrestrained Andalusian gypsy woman and Don José. Drawing from Georges Bizet and Rodion Shchedrin's compositions, this production — written and helmed by Ján Ďurovčík — merges libertine with conventional elements, Spanish with Slavonic influences, incorporating folklore aspects in the Escamillo character.
The piece alternates rapid-fire sequences with tender, quiet passages. This Slovak Dance Theatre adaptation has toured extensively across Tokyo, London, Toronto, Ottawa, Beijing, Rome, Madrid, Amsterdam, Mexico City, Québec, Helsinki and Graz.
